Imagine spending the last days of your summer vacation this year trekking through alpine meadows in the shadows of towering peaks, drinking from crystal clear glacier-fed streams, scrambling up remote summits, and watching mountain goats in their craggy habitat - all part of the adventure of a lifetime.
Treehouse Outdoor Education offers this one-of-a-kind, six-day backcountry adventure for teens aged 14 to 19. Mountain Youth is your opportunity to experience the East Kootenay Backcountry with qualified wilderness guides who are also wildlife biologists.
Summer is NOT the time to be in school, but that does not mean that you can't continue to learn about the things that interest you. If your interests include a future in: ADVENTURE TOURISM, OUTDOOR RECREATION, WILDLIFE AND MOUNTAIN ECOLOGY, WILD PLANT IDENTIFICATION AND USES, and SELF-SUFFICIENT, SAFE BACKCOUNTRY TRAVEL, then this trip is a must for you!
Participants will be a part of the planning stages of the trip, and will learn about backcountry food preparation and cooking, wilderness navigation (map & compass), proper wilderness equipment, backcountry sanitation and, most importantly, no-trace wilderness travel and trip planning.
This trip is an extended adventure into remote wilderness - the only way to experience the true wild majesty of the East Kootenays as it once was. Participants should be in reasonable physical condition, as they will be required to carry their share of the group gear (food, tents, cooking gear) as well as their personal equipment.
The cost per participant is $550.00 Canadian, with a maximum of 8 participants, and a minimum of two certified guides Please contact us if financial limitations may hinder your participation.
